The Hollywood Insider US Soccer Equal Pay Women's Team

Photo: US Women’s Soccer

It has been recently announced that for the first time in U.S. history that the women’s national soccer team will be receiving equal pay to that of the men’s national team. This landmark occasion marks the first time that the pay disparity between men and women on a professional sports team has finally been corrected and that they will be receiving just consideration and reward for their hard work and effort. The collective bargaining agreements between the teams and the U.S. Soccer Federation has now been ratified and it is confirmed that this inclusion of equal pay within the league will be the status quo moving forward. This is a momentous occasion not only for the women’s national team but also for the entire country and world in general. Humankind has finally reached a point in history where a professional team or group of women is now seen as equal to that of their male counterparts. It is something that should be recognized for the symbol of change that it is and the bright future of fairness and equality that shines in the horizon (future) of America and the world to come.

The USWNT And The USMNT Are Set To Receive Equal Pay

For the first time in the sport of soccer’s history, men and women in the United States are set to receive equal pay for their involvement and place on the country’s national teams. This historic decision is one that finally ends years of bitter disagreements between the Soccer Federation and their professional men’s and women’s teams. The key points of this deal are, “men’s and women’s identical appearance fees and bonuses for all games and competitions, a 50-50 split of broadcast apparel, sponsorship and ticket revenue, and also equal hotel accommodations and charter flight travel, and equal quality playing venues and field surfaces.” Finally, for the first time in American history, two professional sports teams concerning both men and women, will be seen as equals in the eyes of the professional organization that compensates them. While this may seem like a decision that is clearly fair to the players on these teams, it has been one that has been hard-fought and has never been done in the history of soccer before.

Another historic aspect of the agreement between the men’s and women’s teams is that “The men’s and women’s teams will pool and share World Cup prize bonus money.” With the women’s World Prize totalling around $30 million in 2019, and now the men’s World Cup Prize for 2022 being set to be for more than $450 million, the glaring inequality between how the world values its men’s and women’s teams is readily apparent. By the US’s National Soccer teams agreeing to split any prizes from these World Cups, equally, there now is a clear level of respect and consideration between both men and women that has never existed before in the professional levels of this sport, or any other for that matter.

US Soccer Women – This Fight for Equal Pay Has Been Years in The Making

The fight to make pay equal for men and women has been one that has plagued not only the U.S., as a nation, but the entire world as well. This inequality could not be more clearly reflected in how the world as well as the U.S. values men’s sports teams over that of women’s. Now, this fight has finally led to an unexpected change in how the US National Soccer Federation operates. The USWNT has been fighting for years to earn equal pay that is rightfully theirs. Now it has been recently announced that this compensatory equality has finally arrived. One of the main arguments of the USWNT of why they deserve equal pay to the USMNT, at the least, is due to the fact that in the past seven years they have won two World Cups. “The U.S. women won the World Cup in 2015 and 2019, while the U.S. men didn’t even qualify in 2018.”

It is unbelievable to think that the women’s national team who were world champions, two times over, could not receive the same pay as their male counterparts who failed to even qualify for the world tournament. It is completely just to think that these women who belong to the US National Team deserve as much pay as the men’s National Team. This equality will go on to benefit not only the men in the U.S. who are best at soccer, but now the women in the U.S., as well. This change is optimistically reflective of the changing views of society, and how one day all people will be treated fairly and compensated justly for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to their craft.

What These National Teams’ Equal Pay Will Mean for All Of The Country

The equal pay that has been announced by the U.S. Soccer Federation concerning the men’s and women’s national teams is symbolic of the transforming views of society. Slowly, women are rightfully being seen as deserving of the same equality and liberty as men. Throughout history, this has not been the case. In the past, people have been viewed as lesser than because of their gender or the color of their skin. With the women’s national soccer team receiving the same pay and benefits as the men’s national team, this historical and ignorant prejudice against affording women equal rights to men is dissipating. “With the women no longer having to fight for what they always said was right and just, soccer in general can only benefit going forward with its best players happier and now with an incentive to grow the game even more.”

For generations to come this public and visible equality will serve as a beacon for truth and fairness. The USWNT has proven that it is deserving of the liberty and equality that has been guaranteed to the USMNT. This need for equality stretches far beyond the reaches of the sport of soccer as it concerns all women, and people of the world. No longer should there be a world where men earn more simply because they are men. Individuals should earn what is right and what they deserve based on how much effort and thought they put into their work and craft. Compensation should not be based off of anything other than that, and that is the statement that the U.S. Soccer Federation has made.

An excerpt from the love letter: The Hollywood Insider’s CEO/editor-in-chief Pritan Ambroase affirms, We have the space and time for all your stories, no matter who/what/where you are. Media/Cinema/TV have a responsibility to better the world and The Hollywood Insider will continue to do so. Talent, diversity and authenticity matter in Cinema/TV, media and storytelling. In fact, I reckon that we should announce “talent-diversity-authenticity-storytelling-Cinema-Oscars-Academy-Awards” as synonyms of each other. We show respect to talent and stories regardless of their skin color, race, gender, sexuality, religion, nationality, etc., thus allowing authenticity into this system just by something as simple as accepting and showing respect to the human species’ factual diversity. We become greater just by respecting and appreciating talent in all its shapes, sizes, and forms. Award winners, which includes nominees, must be chosen on the greatness of their talent ALONE.

I am sure I am speaking for a multitude of Cinema lovers all over the world when I speak of the following sentiments that this medium of art has blessed me with. Cinema taught me about our world, at times in English and at times through the beautiful one-inch bar of subtitles. I learned from the stories in the global movies that we are all alike across all borders. Remember that one of the best symbols of many great civilizations and their prosperity has been the art they have left behind. This art can be in the form of paintings, sculptures, architecture, writings, inventions, etc. For our modern society, Cinema happens to be one of them. Cinema is more than just a form of entertainment, it is an integral part of society. I love the world uniting, be it for Cinema, TV, media, art, fashion, sport, etc. Please keep this going full speed.
