In three swift shows, Marvel Studios solidified its place in the television streaming space. ‘WandaVision’reinvented the typical television format – a subversive show helmed by strong female characters and introducing new, witchy powers. ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ not only gave us a pleasant return to that classic superhero genre feel – but took strides in addressing racial inequalities in the US through nuanced scenes, and more clearly through a new, reinvented Captain America. And finally, ‘Loki’ completely took audiences for a loop, giving a fan-favorite villain an existential arc and successfully expanding the MCU into a larger multiverse.

But there is still so much more to come. In fact, the MCU has over 10 series in development for the future – shows that will phase out over the next few years on Disney+. Here’s a summary of all the new shows they have in store!

Upcoming Marvel and Disney+ TV Shows:

‘What If…?’

‘What If…?’ is the MCU’s next Disney+ show, premiering this August 2021. The animated series boasts the voice acting talents of most of the MCU cast (save for a couple, like Robert Downey Junior and Chris Evans). That means everyone from Paul Rudd to Haley Atwell will be a part of the show. Notably, ‘What If…?’ will mark Chadwick Boseman’s last performance. The show’s conceit lies on the question – what if several key moments in history happened differently? How would that change the course of the future, and the world as we know it?

‘Hawkeye’

‘Hawkeye’ will follow in the footsteps of the already premiered Marvel shows in giving a familiar, longtime character their own titular show. In ‘Hawkeye,’ Jeremy Renner will reprise his role as our favorite arrow-slinging Avenger; but there will be new characters too, namely Hailee Steinfeld, who will play Kate Bishop (a character from the comics). Notably, the show is set to address Hawkeye’s deafness, which is one of his main character traits in the comics. With news that the show may also bring to life other disabled superheroes, the show could be a huge success for disability representation.

‘Ms. Marvel’

‘Ms. Marvel’, which is set to premiere in late 2021, will follow a young Pakistani-American girl named Khamala Khan as she eventually becomes her superhero identity, “Ms. Marvel.” With the character also planned to appear in ‘Captain Marvel 2,’ the assumption is that the show will basically be her origin story – and perhaps a coming-of-age story too, as she’s a young teen. Not many details are known about the show, but it’s being highly praised and anticipated, as Ms. Marvel will be also the first-ever Muslim superhero!

 ‘She-Hulk’

‘She-Hulk’ will bring another “Hulk” to the MCU – this time in the form of Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who now apparently has to deal with her uncontainable, anger issues. The show promises to be another subversive, unique story, with it being described as a “half-hour legal comedy” by Kevin Feige. Mark Ruffalo is also set to appear in the show, with Tim Roth reprising his role as the Abomination from ‘The Incredible Hulk.’ ‘She-Hulk’ will premiere in 2022 with a 10-episode run.

 ‘Moon Knight’

‘Moon Knight’, which will debut sometime in 2022, is definitely a show to get excited for. For one, it’s going to star Oscar Isaac opposite Ethan Hawke, so it’s got some A-class talent in front of the camera. But it also promises some more mature content in the MCU, which is an exciting progression for the universe. The show follows the comic of the same name – an origin story in which an ex-felon becomes “The Fist of Kohnshu.” Hopefully, more details about the show will be released soon!

‘Secret Invasion’

Not much is known about ‘Secret Invasion’ except that it will be based on the Marvel comic of the same name. With a great cast – boasting Samuel L. Jackson, Olivia Colman, and Ben Mendelsohn among others – we won’t be surprised if it exceeds our highest expectations. ‘Secret Invasion’ is set to, possibly, continue the Skrull storyline/world introduced in ‘Captain Marvel’, with the characters Nick Fury and Skrull Talos leading the show.

 ‘Armor Wars’

In ‘Armor Wars,’ long-time MCU character James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) will take front and center. As the show’s IMDB page states, the show will explore “what would happen if Tony Stark’s tech fell into the wrong hands.” The show is so early in development that nothing other than that general premise and Cheadle’s involvement has been confirmed.

 ‘I am Groot’

‘I Am Groot’ will be a family-friendly animated show centered around the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ character, Groot. While much is still unknown about the series, according to the Marvel website, the show will feature “several new and unusual characters” as they join Groot in “a series of shorts.” It’s unclear whether this will be a standard half-hour animated show, or a true anthology of short shorts.

Untitled Wakanda Series

Little to no details have been released on this upcoming project, besides the fact that Ryan Coogler (director of ‘Black Panther’) will be helming the project. The series will explore the world and culture of Wakanda – perhaps even tied to whatever happens in the upcoming ‘Black Panther 2’.

‘Iron Heart’

‘Iron Heart’ will star Dominique Throne, known for ‘If Beale Street Could Talk.’ It’ll be based on the comic book series of the same name, which follows a young engineer as she follows in the footsteps of Tony Stark himself. One theme that seems to be happening in Phase Four is creating somewhat of a spin-off for each of the OG Avengers – what with Florence Pugh in ‘Black Widow’ possibly taking up that mantel, She-Hulk joining the “Hulk” universe, and now ‘Iron Heart’ – heavily inspired by Iron Man.

‘Loki’ Season 2 and Beyond

Other than the debuts of these listed shows, ‘Loki’ will also be getting a season 2, an announcement that took form as the show’s last post-credit scene. As ‘WandaVision’ is a limited series, it will not be getting a second season, but ‘The Falcon and the Winter’ may possibly get one (it’s unclear whether it’s a limited series or not). Nevertheless, this list makes it clear that the MCU masterminds are hard at work, and whatever they have planned for Phase 4 will be worth waiting for.
