The Hollywood Insider Disney Plus Day, D23

Photo Disney Plus Day

September 8th – It’s Disney Plus Day! But what exactly does that mean? Though the streaming platform is only a handful of years old, Disney has raised their marketing strategy and has given families something to look forward to. The day includes many new things streaming on Disney+ and even gives new subscribers a hefty discount for their first monthly fee. It’s quite a strange thing to get used to, seeing how most streaming services don’t have a big day in their honor, and how Disney as a company appears to have many other celebrations throughout the year. Alas! There’s no changing it, so might as well take advantage of the day while you can.

Disney, and specifically, Disney+, is full of some of the biggest universes in the entertainment world. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe dominating the superhero front, the Star Wars franchise mixing nostalgia with originality, the bountiful amount of childhood shows taking everyone back to their adolescence, and of course, the Disney features themselves, from the animated classics, to the live-action retellings. Disney+ seemingly has everything, and Disney Plus Day is a way to celebrate that whileo le also giving the world a little more.

What’s New On Disney+?

In honor of this day, Disney is releasing several projects, and there’s something for everyone. On that superhero front, the platform is streaming ‘Thor: Love and Thunder,’ the fourth Thor movie which recently hit theaters in July. It can now be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home. Additionally, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the movie will drop as a part of the ‘Assembled’ series. The next project is a completely new movie, only available through Disney+, no other strings attached. It’s the live-action remake of ‘Pinocchio,’ starring Tom Hanks and Cynthia Erivo. Last on the movie chain, both ‘Frozen’ and ‘Frozen 2’ will be released as sing-along versions. Flying over to the television world, several shows are premiering or new episodes are releasing. ‘Cars on the Road,’ a series unsurprisingly focused on the world of the ‘Cars’ movies, is making its way into the world. ‘Tierra Incógnita,’ an Argentinian horror series, is premiering, along with a new episode of ‘She-Hulk.’  Two new docu-series will also be coming to Disney+: ‘Growing Up’ and ‘Epic Adventures With Bertie Gregory.’

Along with the movies and TV shows releasing, various specials and shorts will also get their time to shine. ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return’ will chronicle the making of the ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ series. ‘Welcome to the Club,’ a comedy about Lisa Simpson attempting to be a Disney Princess, is dropping. A short film, starring Brie Larson, and entitled: ‘Remembering’ is available. And for ‘Dancing with the Stars’ fans, there’s a special in which the Pros look back through the seasons at their most memorable dances. That covers all the scheduled releases, but it’s likely that Disney will also drop new trailers, teasers, and announcements for future projects, so there’s more to be excited for. This day along with the upcoming D23 Expo (a full, annual Disney Exposition) means every fan of Mickey Mouse, and everything under him should be satisfied.

Disney Plus Day – The Age of Streaming Services

In this modern age, streaming services are taking over the entertainment industry. From Netflix to HBO Max to the newer Paramount+, and then some. There are so many services available. It can be overwhelming to decide which ones are the ones to spend money on and which ones aren’t as necessary. Everyone has their own tastes, and each streaming platform has their own identity, so it’s almost a form of matchmaking within media. Through Disney Plus Day, Disney is doing their best to stand out among the sea of other streaming services. These services are not essentials, they’re privileges, but companies can make it easy for viewers to feel left out if they don’t have something. Disney Plus Day is a time for celebration and appreciation, but it’s also a business means. For those who have the service, they get to be included. For those who don’t, they want to be included, and, especially with the new subscriber discount, there’s a probability that they’ll take that next step and sign up for a subscription. There’s no shame in a marketing plan, but it is important to realize that strategy plays a role in this day.

In terms of streaming services, Disney+ stands out for its wide collection of possibilities. Again, each service has something different to offer, but Disney+ has such a broad array of universes, films, and other media content, it has to be one of the top services out there today. Disney has always had a lot to offer the entertainment industry, and while some fear the potential monopoly the company can (and maybe already has) become, there’s a lot of respect for the empire that has been built, and the role Disney+ plays within that empire.

Enjoy the Day

All that’s left to say is to just “enjoy the day” if you have Disney+. The specials and new releases aren’t going anywhere, so you can wait for the weekend, or for a family movie night, or just whenever you feel like it. New content is always exciting, especially as the school year is starting and autumn is just around the corner, so it’s a great time for new things to be explored. Disney Plus Day is meant to be fun – so let’s have fun!

In all honesty, September 8th is just a day, but there’s nothing wrong with enjoying the little things in life. There’s a little something in it for everybody, though those who don’t have the service should not be subjected to feeling left out. We’ll have to watch and see how all the new releases are favored. Personally, I think it will be interesting to see how the new ‘Pinocchio’ turns out, though everyone will have their own opinion on what to look forward to. I suppose that means it’s time to sit back, relax, and enjoy whatever suits your fancy.

An excerpt from the love letter: The Hollywood Insider’s CEO/editor-in-chief Pritan Ambroase affirms, We have the space and time for all your stories, no matter who/what/where you are. Media/Cinema/TV have a responsibility to better the world and The Hollywood Insider will continue to do so. Talent, diversity and authenticity matter in Cinema/TV, media and storytelling. In fact, I reckon that we should announce “talent-diversity-authenticity-storytelling-Cinema-Oscars-Academy-Awards” as synonyms of each other. We show respect to talent and stories regardless of their skin color, race, gender, sexuality, religion, nationality, etc., thus allowing authenticity into this system just by something as simple as accepting and showing respect to the human species’ factual diversity. We become greater just by respecting and appreciating talent in all its shapes, sizes, and forms. Award winners, which includes nominees, must be chosen on the greatness of their talent ALONE.

I am sure I am speaking for a multitude of Cinema lovers all over the world when I speak of the following sentiments that this medium of art has blessed me with. Cinema taught me about our world, at times in English and at times through the beautiful one-inch bar of subtitles. I learned from the stories in the global movies that we are all alike across all borders. Remember that one of the best symbols of many great civilizations and their prosperity has been the art they have left behind. This art can be in the form of paintings, sculptures, architecture, writings, inventions, etc. For our modern society, Cinema happens to be one of them. Cinema is more than just a form of entertainment, it is an integral part of society. I love the world uniting, be it for Cinema, TV, media, art, fashion, sport, etc. Please keep this going full speed.
