‘Jonas Brothers Family Roast’ – Battling Brothers

Kevin, Joe, and Nick come together as comedians, friends, and family each has their turn roasting the three. Whether it be their old clothing style or their “fails” at solo careers, the brothers cringe and laugh at themselves throughout the show. It’s definitely not easy to sit and be absolutely flammed about everything you did in life, but that is what they signed up for. ‘Jonas Brothers Family Roast’ hit Tuesday on Netflix and this one-hour special features comedians like Pete Davidson and Lilly Singh, celebrity guests like Blake Shelton and John Legend, and to top it all off hosted by Saturday Night Live’s one and only, Kenan Thompson. With a rich history of success, drama, and their first break up of their band, there was plenty of content for people to use against the Jonas Brothers.

The brothers take each hard blow but are overall good sports during the special. Whether someone doesn’t know much about the Jonas Brothers’ careers or has been a long-time fan, the special is packed full of laughter. Though the boy band had their beginning on the Disney channel, this special is definitely not kid-friendly. Of course, not being suitable for children makes it a successful roast.

Their Better Halves

Watching professional comedians do their job of completely humbling and embarrassing the Jonas Brothers is very entertaining, though the highlight of the show is having their wives one by one roast their husbands. Nick’s wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas went first and did not disappoint. Touching on their age gap and comparing the difference between their acting careers, Chopra really hit below the built. Kevin’s wife, Danielle Jonas sadly lost her voice and used queue cards, but then let Kenan take over and read her roast. Kevin may always be known as the forgotten brother of the three so Danielle might have talked him up more than put him down. Last but not least Joe’s wife, Sophie Turner, did an outstanding job of nitpicking at her husband and his past of hooking up with his co-stars. It was fun to see the three wives sit and watch their husbands get completely obliterated and have their own turn of doing the same.

Great Balance

A great thing about this special was the moments that the audience could be taken out of the room. With most comedy specials, the main and only attraction is a person being on stage performing. Though in this circumstance it was different because it was a roast of three people and a gathering of comedians, they did something better. From the start, they had pre-filmed sketches of the brothers that interspersed within the special. This gave the audience a moment to breathe and refocus on what is to come next. The director Alex Van Wagner and writer Sean O’Connor did a great job of keeping a balance throughout the show so it didn’t get repetitive or boring. Though the sketches are a bit corny, I believe it is the perfect thing for the Jonas Brothers. Their careers started on the Disney channel which is the home of corny television. It was an adult version of what would be done on their old show so it fits perfectly with their theme.

Back Together

All jokes and roasts aside, the Jonas Brothers are back together and fans couldn’t be happier. In October of 2013, the world stopped for some people when the announcement of their favorite boy band was splitting up. All three went on their own path whether it was Kevin on his own reality show ‘Married to Jonas’ and then starting his own family, Joe creating his band DNCE and singing the huge hit “Cake By The Ocean” and last but not least Nick who has starred in the ‘Jumanji’ remake alongside Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart while also releasing singles like “Sucker”. The three have had very different paths since the break-up, but as time went on and healed, so did they. In 2019, it was teased that the Jonas Brothers were getting back together and they sure were. They released their album “Happiness Begins” and also a documentary ‘Chasing Happiness’ which told their story of growing up together and turning into pop music sensations. They now are touring with more music around the world and now fans who missed them now have the chance to see them again.

WRAP UP

‘Jonas Brothers Family Roast’ is a fun watch if you like them or not. Viewing anyone get roasted about their career or life choices is extremely entertaining and in this Netflix special the comedians do a fantastic job. The three of them act like good sports not taking anyone’s comments too seriously, but it is fun to watch them cringe and laugh at themselves. This one-hour Netflix special is a much-watch for the kids who are now adults, but loved the Jonas Brother and are now over the moon with their reunion almost ten years later.
