Netflix has done it again with a new upcoming original, ‘Red Notice,’ being released on November 12. ‘Red Notice’ not only gives all of the action-packed comedy that we all love but also features some of our favorite actors and actresses, including Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson, and Ryan Reynolds. ‘Red Notice’ follows the story of the FBI’s top profiler, John Hartley (Dwayne Johnson), and his journey to finding the world’s most wanted art thief, The Bishop (Gal Gadot), following the issuance of a red notice. If you have never heard of a red notice before, it is basically something the FBI issues to alert all international law enforcement to locate and arrest a wanted criminal. Ryan Reynolds’ character, Nolan Booth, also happens to be considered the world’s best art thief, which really just throws in a plot twist no one was really expecting.

In a heist, John Hartley is forced to pair up with Nolan Booth in what might make the most confusing power duo in an action-comedy film of all time. Mostly confusing because we do not often see the “bad guys” working with the “good guys” in these types of films, so this one will definitely be interesting. It’s not clear from the trailer why the two are forced to pair up, but I am assuming it’s because Nolan Booth probably knows a lot more about the art thief world than John does, so it only makes sense that he would need his knowledge in trying to find The Bishop. Throughout the film, Nolan Booth is a total jokester, which brings in the comedy aspect that we all sometimes hope for in an action film. John Hartley is seemingly an uptight, very serious guy who takes his missions seriously. The Bishop is a total boss girl who basically just fools John and Nolan throughout the movie.

‘Red Notice’ – On the Hunt
Based on the trailer, we first see John Hartley sitting in Nolan Booth’s home, and we quickly see that Nolan has been set up as he is surrounded by a number of law enforcement agents. We then see the two pair up as John asks Nolan for his help in catching The Bishop. It seems they think they successfully fooled The Bishop in their first meeting with her, but in reality, The Bishop has fooled John and somehow was able to issue a red notice for him. In the next scene, John Hartley has been locked up for whatever crime The Bishop was able to come up with, but of course, he quickly is released or escapes and is back on his journey to capture the world’s most wanted art thief, The Bishop. We find out that The Bishop is on to her next big steal, which happens to priceless art. The Bishop leads Nolan and John on a wild chase as we see them in a bullfighting ring, jungle, being shot at with a missile while flying a helicopter, bursting through glass windows, and more.

We also see some sort of romance aspect as Nolan Booth sarcastically drools over The Bishop and actually John Hartley and The Bishop dancing in a classy ballroom together. Overall, one thing is clear about ‘Red Notice,’ and that is that the film is definitely action-packed with a variety of action scenes that be seen just from the trailer. Obviously, since this film is an action-comedy, we also see plenty of humor, mostly coming from the world’s second-best art thief, Nolan Booth. The humor is sarcastic and normal from what we usually see from Ryan Reynolds, which is always an excellent aspect for any film he is in. Based on the trailer, it is not clear whether John Hartley will be able to capture The Bishop because it looks like she is able to escape any attempt to catch her from the trailer. I am also curious whether Nolan Booth will be able to live free or if he will also be imprisoned for the crimes he has committed by the end of the film. The last scene of the trailer shows The Bishop once again fooling Nolan and John as they get knocked out by what seems to be her security.
Will The Bishop Escape?
It is not clear whether she will escape or not, but my guess with any classic action film is that she will be caught finally. There will have to be some kind of twist, though, such as John and The Bishop falling in love by the end or Nolan and The Bishop pairing up against John. My personal vote for the ending would definitely be The Bishop and John Hartley falling in love by the end because it would make for the best plot twist. Overall, I am excited to watch ‘Red Notice’ because it already offers a twist from the beginning with Nolan Booth and John Hartley pairing up together. It is clear that John and Nolan will make a hilarious but powerful duo. We will just have to watch the film on Netflix on November 12 to find out how the story will end.
