The Hollywood Insider Halloween Ends Review

Michael Meyers has been an iconic villain for more than 40 years. He has been considered to be cinema’s most memorable “boogeyman” for his maturing audiences.  It all started with John Carpenter’s 1978 film ‘Halloween.’ The film was made on a low budget. The film’s script was written by Carpenter and Debra Hill. Michael Meyers’ mask is considered to be iconic since it is white and has frizzled brown hair. What some fans did not know was the fact that it was an altered William Shatner mask from the popular Star Trek series. The film was shot in a house at South Pasadena, Los Angeles, California. The budget for the horror movie was $300,000. It became a box office success and grossed $60 million worldwide. John Carpenter proved to other horror filmmakers how they can create something that is considered innovative with a budget under a million dollars

After the film’s success, it spawned several sequels. John Carpenter was only involved in writing and directing the first one as well as writing the script for ‘Halloween II.’ He relied on other filmmakers and studios to do whatever they had in mind with the iconic villain.

Rob Zombie’s ‘Halloween’ Films

Rob Zombie found Michael Meyers to be an interesting villain and around the late 2000s, Rob Zombie did his version of “Halloween.” The director approached John Carpenter before making the remake. Carpenter suggested Zombie have his own take on the Michael Meyers’ story.  Some viewers find it interesting that Zombie’s version had a profound background story on Michael Myers’ childhood beginnings. Most critics didn’t take kindly to it considering that it ruined the ambiguity of Michael Meyers’ motives. Nonetheless, it made $80.3 million worldwide in the U.S with a budget of $15 million.

Around 2009, Rob Zombie directed his version of “Halloween II.” For Rob Zombie, he wanted to focus more on the relationship between Myers and Strode and how they relate to one another in a psychological sense. Zombie also wanted the film to be more violent and intense than the original film. However, the film still received negative reviews and concluded Zombie’s franchise.

David Gordon Green’s Involvement – ‘Halloween Ends’

However, auteur director David Gordon Green, who is well-known for making personal critically-acclaimed films like his debut ‘George Washington’ as well as his more mainstream comedic hit, ‘Pineapple Express,’ took it upon himself to continue with the Michael Meyers saga along with his long-time collaborator Danny McBride. In 2018, they released ‘Halloween,’ a direct sequel to Carpenter’s 1978 film. David Gordon Green and Danny McBride decided to ignore every sequel ever made from the 1980s to the 2000 films. Their latest installment of the film took place 40 years after the events of the original film. Three years later, David Gordon Green released its sequel ‘Halloween Kills’ (2021). This year, he made another installment which could be Jamie Lee Curtis’ last performance as Laurie Strode, the iconic heroine, and survivor.

Jamie Lee Curtis was so excited about her involvement in the film, she took it upon herself to tell every Halloween fan on social media not to spoil the new film in any way whatsoever. She strongly feels that her latest performance as Laurie Strode will be a memorable one. As a reminder to all fans, Laurie Strode was protecting her daughter (played by Judy Greer) and granddaughter (Andi Matichak) from Michael Meyers. At the end of last year’s sequel, ‘Halloween Kills,’ Michael succeeded in killing Laurie’s daughter. It definitely raises the big question of whether Laurie will take vengeance by killing the iconic movie villain or die trying.

The Cast

For the fans who are wondering who will be the returning cast members, they can expect to see Kylie Richards return as Lindsey. Andi Matichack will also return as Allyson, Laurie’s granddaughter. Will Patton will reprise his role as Deputy Frank Hawkins. However, fans will be excited about having Nick Castle return to his role as Michael Myers. The role will also be played by James Jude Courtney. Michael O’Leary will appear as Dr. Mathis, a character that was mentioned in the sequel, ‘Halloween Kills.’

As a reminder for the ‘Halloween’ fans, ‘Halloween Kills’ and its predecessor took place in 2018. The new film ‘Halloween Kills’ will take place four years after. David Gordon Green wanted to make his final entry on the Halloween film take place in recent times. This means that the story will not shy away from reminding the audiences that they are still in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and other things that are happening in this world.

In Conclusion

According to John Carpenter, there will be other Halloween films in the future due to the franchises’ fan base over the years and it is licensed through Blumhouse films. Regardless of whether any new franchises will be made with John Carpenter’s blessing or not, Michael Meyers will not be forgotten by ‘Halloween Fans’ everywhere. His immortality and spooky diligence will always fascinate moviegoers for decades to come.

An excerpt from the love letter: The Hollywood Insider’s CEO/editor-in-chief Pritan Ambroase affirms, We have the space and time for all your stories, no matter who/what/where you are. Media/Cinema/TV have a responsibility to better the world and The Hollywood Insider will continue to do so. Talent, diversity and authenticity matter in Cinema/TV, media and storytelling. In fact, I reckon that we should announce “talent-diversity-authenticity-storytelling-Cinema-Oscars-Academy-Awards” as synonyms of each other. We show respect to talent and stories regardless of their skin color, race, gender, sexuality, religion, nationality, etc., thus allowing authenticity into this system just by something as simple as accepting and showing respect to the human species’ factual diversity. We become greater just by respecting and appreciating talent in all its shapes, sizes, and forms. Award winners, which includes nominees, must be chosen on the greatness of their talent ALONE.

I am sure I am speaking for a multitude of Cinema lovers all over the world when I speak of the following sentiments that this medium of art has blessed me with. Cinema taught me about our world, at times in English and at times through the beautiful one-inch bar of subtitles. I learned from the stories in the global movies that we are all alike across all borders. Remember that one of the best symbols of many great civilizations and their prosperity has been the art they have left behind. This art can be in the form of paintings, sculptures, architecture, writings, inventions, etc. For our modern society, Cinema happens to be one of them. Cinema is more than just a form of entertainment, it is an integral part of society. I love the world uniting, be it for Cinema, TV, media, art, fashion, sport, etc. Please keep this going full speed.
