The Hollywood Insider Danny Devito Tribute

Video Version of this Article

Danny Devito is one of America’s film industry legends. On top of that, he also has a down-to-earth, vibrant, quick-witted larger-than-life personality to accompany his talents. Being born and raised in Jersey, he always knew he would be destined for greatness in whatever he set his mind to, and of course, all of these dreams came true. Not much interested in college following the ending of his high school career, he found himself wondering what he really wanted to do, leading to his sister’s suggestion to work at her hair salon. He took up the offer and enjoys bringing it up in interviews, saying that being a cosmetician was something he enjoyed at that point in his life. Enjoying his time at the hair salon so much, he decided to take his skill set up a notch and applied to take makeup classes at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.

He would receive accolades for his performance during his monologue audition as part of his application to get into the school. With this feedback, he opted to take acting classes while attending the school as well. After graduating, Danny moved to Los Angeles, where he didn’t get the start he wanted which led to him moving back to New York, where he would land several parts in off-broadway plays. It wouldn’t be long before he found himself landing a role in an off-broadway show called ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.’ He played the part so well four years later; he would be asked to take a role in the impressively successful film version of Milos Forman’s ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,’ which brought him to the national spotlight.

From Cosmetician to Multi-Generational Legend

With great success and recognition for his role in ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,’ it wouldn’t be long before he would land his next big role in a television series, ‘Taxi.’ With this role, he would win an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor. ‘Taxi’ would also allow him to get experience behind the scenes as he was able to direct several episodes. His success continued to grow as he found himself in more and more films starring alongside some other legends like Jack Nicholson and Arnold Schwarzenegger. As he continued to act and have a part behind the scenes, he would build  his production company, Jersey Films, in 1991, which would produce popular films such as ‘Pulp Fiction.’

Danny Devito has spent a long-time in the film industry with many hits throughout the decades, which kind of makes him a multi-generational legend. With his popularity from ‘Taxi’ through the 1970s-1980s up to his famous and cherished role in ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ through the 2000s, it is no secret that he truly has impacted several generations throughout his career, which is pretty cool if you ask me. His continuance and dedication to his career as an actor, producer, and director have never waivered his vibrant personality and outlook on life, which is why I think so many people throughout generations have genuinely grown to love Danny Devito. For generations to come, Danny Devito will continue to be cherished as we watch him some of his most famous films and television shows and, of course, the new projects he continues to find himself in.

Danny Devito – Highly-Awarded Success

His hard work has, of course, been highly awarded over the many years of his career. As mentioned before, he won an Emmy for ‘Taxi’ and also received a nomination for his guest appearance in ‘Friends.’ He also won a Golden Globe and even more awards for his part in ‘Taxi,’ which truly goes to show that ‘Taxi’ was a great highlight of his film career. With the win of the Golden Globe, he also received Golden Globe nominations for ‘Taxi,’ ‘Ruthless People,’ and ‘Throw Momma From the Train.’ Danny was also nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture for ‘Erin Brockovich.’

With that small highlight of his wins and nominations over the years, one thing deems valid for Danny Devito, is that he has had a significant impact on the film industry and continues to do so today. As he continues to thrive with the continuance of taking on large roles and projects, it is clear that we will thankfully continue to see Danny Devito on the big screen for years to come. I can’t imagine a world without Danny gracing the screen, whether it’s through television interviews or on broadway, you never know what he will do next, and I am grateful to have been able to witness his personality and work over the years.

Will he ever retire?

In that quick, funny way, Danny Devito has made it clear through interviews over the years that retiring is not anywhere in his near future. He continues to immerse himself and whatever he can take on next, which I think is admirable. His dedication and passion for his career are refreshing, and it’s pretty interesting he quite literally has seen the film industry in many different stages over the decades. Danny Devito definitely loves his job, and I am sure that he will continue to shut down anyone that might question his retiring from the film industry.

With that being said, we will be able to see Danny Devito in a couple of upcoming projects, so exciting, I know. Danny Devito will next be seen in ‘Sniff’ with Al Pacino, directed by Taylor Hackford. He will also next be seen in ‘Triplets’ with Eddie Murphy, directed by Ivan Reitman. Danny will also be voice acting in ‘Little Demon’ with Aubrey Plaza, directed by Darcy Fowler. He always said he likes to have a couple of things going at once if possible, and this current lineup makes that pretty evident. His continued presence on the screen will influence and impact a variety of people for years to come.

An excerpt from the love letter: The Hollywood Insider’s CEO/editor-in-chief Pritan Ambroase affirms, We have the space and time for all your stories, no matter who/what/where you are. Media/Cinema/TV have a responsibility to better the world and The Hollywood Insider will continue to do so. Talent, diversity and authenticity matter in Cinema/TV, media and storytelling. In fact, I reckon that we should announce “talent-diversity-authenticity-storytelling-Cinema-Oscars-Academy-Awards” as synonyms of each other. We show respect to talent and stories regardless of their skin color, race, gender, sexuality, religion, nationality, etc., thus allowing authenticity into this system just by something as simple as accepting and showing respect to the human species’ factual diversity. We become greater just by respecting and appreciating talent in all its shapes, sizes, and forms. Award winners, which includes nominees, must be chosen on the greatness of their talent ALONE.

I am sure I am speaking for a multitude of Cinema lovers all over the world when I speak of the following sentiments that this medium of art has blessed me with. Cinema taught me about our world, at times in English and at times through the beautiful one-inch bar of subtitles. I learned from the stories in the global movies that we are all alike across all borders. Remember that one of the best symbols of many great civilizations and their prosperity has been the art they have left behind. This art can be in the form of paintings, sculptures, architecture, writings, inventions, etc. For our modern society, Cinema happens to be one of them. Cinema is more than just a form of entertainment, it is an integral part of society. I love the world uniting, be it for Cinema, TV, media, art, fashion, sport, etc. Please keep this going full speed.
