Hollywood Insider Deadpool 3 MCU, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ryan Reynolds

Deadpool‘ made a name for itself when it became Fox’s most prized superhero installment, which earned a sequel for the anti-hero in 2018’s ‘Deadpool 2.’ When Disney bought 20th Century Fox, the future of beloved foul-mouthed and wildly comedic Deadpool was questioned with its R-rated persona now owned by a strict PG-13 company. Marvel fans had their worries for the outcome, or lack thereof, of the dirty anti-hero that is until Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige released info regarding when filming of ‘Deadpool 3’ is expected to begin and, most importantly, confirmed that the threequel will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It is important to note that Kevin Feige confirmed that ‘Deadpool 3’ will not lose its R-rating, meaning Deadpool will not hold back from his sly and vulgar comments. Ryan Reynolds said this about the ‘Deadpool 3’ announcement on his Twitter, “Full disclosure: I showed them Spiderman 1 & 2 and told them it was Deadpool 1 & 2 #Deadpool3.” Jokingly portraying that in order to get the R-rated film passed, he showed Disney another film in PG-13 with a man in a red suit. Pure comedy genius.

The MCU characters consist of Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and so many more. In short, terms, think back to 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame‘ and the fight scene now, imagine Deadpool alongside Captain America (Chris Evans) spitting out offensive words about Thanos (Josh Brolin) to his face. This was definitely a missed opportunity for comedic relief, but it brings excitement and joy to now be confirmed that this will occur in the MCU’s future. Hopefully, we will even get a fourth wall break as he joins alongside the avengers in battle in some way or another.

As for the storyline of ‘Deadpool 3,’ it is all up in the air. It is unsure whether it will be revisiting the first two films or if Deadpool will be going in a completely different direction involving the current state of the MCU and those within it. Or, if there will be time travel or absolutely anything could happen, and it is genuinely unsure of what that might be; however, I am sure we can expect that with Ryan Reynolds involved and with the state of remaining R-rated that Deadpool will remain the vulgar lovebug that he is. As said by Kevin Feige, “There’s no question that Deadpool is working, so why would we change it?”

‘Deadpool 3’ – Who Is Set To Return

As of now, there is no set director for ‘Deadpool 3’ but Ryan Reynolds is playing a significant part in the production. With the ‘Deadpool’ directed by Tim Miller and ‘Deadpool 2’ directed by David Leitch, it’s unsure who will take on the role of directing for the threequel. As said by Kevin Feige, “It will be rated R, and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”

Without question, Ryan Reynolds will be reprising his role as Wade Wilson because in person or in costume, Reynolds is the perfect comedic person to play someone as manically, pop-culturally aware, and anti-hero as Deadpool. As said by Reynolds in an Instagram post regarding ‘Deadpool 3,’ “First order of business: Find the guy who killed Bambi’s mom.” Truly and honestly could not think of a man better to play Deadpool because Reynolds IS Deadpool.

Still recently announced, no-one else has been confirmed for the cast of ‘Deadpool 3,’ but it is more than likely that it will be packed heavily with top-stars. As done in the first two installments of Deadpool, actors adore the originality and foul-mouthed openness that comes from the R-rated features. Also, Wade Wilson himself is a significant fan of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), so it would only make sense that this pursuit for pop-culture heroes would follow along in ‘Deadpool 3.’ With Josh Brolin as Cable, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio or Julian Dennison as Russell a.k.a Firefist; it is still unsure whether one or all will follow along with Deadpool’s addition into the MCU. It might be safe to assume that Deadpool’s girlfriend Vanessa, portrayed by Morena Baccarin, will make an appearance, but again, all is in the air as this is a new playing field for Deadpool.

Expected Release

With the production of ‘Thor: Love and Thunder,’ currently untitled ‘Spider-Man 3,’ ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ ‘Black Panther II,’ and ‘Captain Marvel II,’ the shooting for ‘Deadpool 3’ is being pushed back. At the earliest, ‘Deadpool 3’ will not begin shooting until 2022; however, screenwriters and sisters Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux, with previous experience in comedy working on ‘Bob’s Burgers,’ have begun writing with Ryan Reynolds overseeing; ensuring the Deadpool character does not lose its original qualities. This means the release of the Deadpool character’s third installment most likely will not be until 2023 if all goes according to plan. Although the MCU does enjoy its cameos and hidden secrets, as shown in the recent release of ‘WandaVision’ so I would not judge out that there might be a slight chance of a Deadpool cameo before the release of ‘Deadpool 3.’

As done before, I expect easter eggs to come throughout the time before ‘Deadpool 3’ is released. From the franchise itself to easter eggs within other MCU productions, I would suggest keeping an eye out for the red-suited goofball.

Best luck is to follow Ryan Reynolds on his social media for goofy remarks regarding ‘Deadpool 3’ and any hidden easter eggs that might give more insight into the storyline, cast, and more.
