Selena Gomez began acting at the age of nine for ‘Barney & Friends’ from 2002 to 2004. From there, she consistently landed roles and eventually found herself as a recurring actress on multiple Disney shows like ‘The Suite Life of Zack and Cody’ and ‘Hannah Montana’. Her prominence in Disney skyrocketed with the premiere of ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’, where she starred as Alex Russo, the leading role. The series was wildly popular on Disney Channel and ran from 2007 to 2012, and received high ratings. As the series charmed kids, teens, and parents globally with its witty comedy, fantasy aspects, and iconic protagonist, the series finale garnered 9.8 million viewers, which is the highest rating for any series finale on Disney Channel. Alex Russo remains a television character frequently talked about as an impactful character who has shaped a lot of young adults into the type of person they are today.
Post-Disney, Selena Gomez continued to act in many films and, now, has an Emmy-nominated series. Selena Gomez broke out of her Disney image quickly with her appearance in the raunchy and violent A24 film ‘Spring Breakers’ with Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, and James Franco. Selena also voices Mavis in the ‘Hotel Transylvania’ series, which ran for ten years since 2012. There were four films in the franchise, and they grossed over 1.3 billion dollars worldwide, with the first three having theatrical releases. Now, Selena Gomez is a lead in ‘Only Murders in the Building’. ‘Only Murders in the Building’ is an Emmy-nominated comedy-drama series made exclusively for Hulu. Selena’s character is the heart of the series, and a lot of the series’s reception can be attributed to her large loyal fanbase, but also the astounding talent of the cast that includes Steve Martin and Martin Short alongside her.

A Pop Icon
Selena Gomez is not only Emmy-nominated, but is Grammy-nominated as well. Her music career started to kick off during her reign as Disney’s it-girl, which was during the life of ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’. Starting as “Selena Gomez & The Scene”, fans were fed with non-stop pop hits that are timeless bops played today. ‘Love You Like A Love Song’, ‘Who Says’, and ‘Naturally’ are all hits from Selena Gomez & The Scene that all placed in the top 30 of the Billboard Hot 100 around their release from 2010 to 2012. Selena Gomez then transitioned as a solo act, changing her official music name to ‘Selena Gomez’. Her first single under her new name was ‘Come and Get It’ in 2013. The tabla-beat pop track peaked at #6 on the Hot 100 and solidified Selena’s name in the list of A-list pop girls.
Selena Gomez has received many accolades for her music career. Having recently received her first Grammy nominations for her Latin album ‘Revelación’ and for writing credits on Coldplay’s Album of the Year nominee ‘Music of the Spheres’. Selena Gomez has released three solo studio albums to date, which have all reached the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 US Albums Chart. Selena Gomez’s lyricism, paired with her soft voice, distinguishes her from the other pop girls. Selena has shown through her music her ability to portray loss, grief, happiness, confidence, sultriness, and power.

Creating One of the Best Cosmetic Brands Today
In recent trends of celebrities taking over the world of makeup, Selena Gomez has created Rare Beauty, a makeup brand titled after her 2020 album ‘Rare’. The beauty brand is stated to highlight the aspects of what makes someone unique. Instead of using makeup to become someone else, Rare Beauty insists their mission is to provide products that break down unrealistic standards of perfection and help people feel good from within. With the beautiful and formerly (at the time) most followed woman on Instagram starting a makeup brand, it was a must for the beauty community and the rest of the world to get a look at the brand. Gladly, the reception of Rare Beauty has been overwhelmingly positive. As a brand that uses sustainable packaging made from 100% recyclable boxes, it’s great to see an industry that contributes to a lot of plastic waste gain a brand like Rare Beauty that is striving to combat that.
Another interesting part of Rare Beauty that has caught the public’s attention is the accessible packaging. As a victim of Lupus herself, fans believed that Selena Gomez wanted to create a container for her makeup brand that would allow those with limited mobility in their hands to be able to access the contents of the container. Coincidentally, doing so, it was actually never confirmed by Rare Beauty that the packaging and shaping were created for the purposes of dexterity, but it was a nice rumor to have that spread like wildfire due to Selena’s inherently good nature. Creators of the beauty community have all stated that the packaging is some of the best they have seen and used, and is a lot easier to utilize than other brands, so it was a great accident. To add to Selena Gomez’s selfless reputation, Rare Beauty is stated to aim at increasing access to mental health resources, so Rare Beauty donates 1% of all sales to the Rare Impact Fund. Rare Beauty stands as the second most popular celebrity brand.

An excerpt from the love letter: The Hollywood Insider’s CEO/editor-in-chief Pritan Ambroase affirms, “We have the space and time for all your stories, no matter who/what/where you are. Media/Cinema/TV have a responsibility to better the world and The Hollywood Insider will continue to do so. Talent, diversity and authenticity matter in Cinema/TV, media and storytelling. In fact, I reckon that we should announce “talent-diversity-authenticity-storytelling-Cinema-Oscars-Academy-Awards” as synonyms of each other. We show respect to talent and stories regardless of their skin color, race, gender, sexuality, religion, nationality, etc., thus allowing authenticity into this system just by something as simple as accepting and showing respect to the human species’ factual diversity. We become greater just by respecting and appreciating talent in all its shapes, sizes, and forms. Award winners, which includes nominees, must be chosen on the greatness of their talent ALONE.
I am sure I am speaking for a multitude of Cinema lovers all over the world when I speak of the following sentiments that this medium of art has blessed me with. Cinema taught me about our world, at times in English and at times through the beautiful one-inch bar of subtitles. I learned from the stories in the global movies that we are all alike across all borders. Remember that one of the best symbols of many great civilizations and their prosperity has been the art they have left behind. This art can be in the form of paintings, sculptures, architecture, writings, inventions, etc. For our modern society, Cinema happens to be one of them. Cinema is more than just a form of entertainment, it is an integral part of society. I love the world uniting, be it for Cinema, TV, media, art, fashion, sport, etc. Please keep this going full speed.”
