‘Luca’ Latest HD Trailer

Pixar fans get ready for your next favorite animated film. If you were missing Pixar these days, have no fear! The animation powerhouse is back with an original film, ‘Luca’, set to premiere in the summer of 2021. Word got around online that Pixar had trademarked a new name, and of course, fans went into a total frenzy (myself included). The coming of age flick is set in Italy and after the success of Onward, Pixar continues to raise the bar for animated motion pictures. Although the world is in a rough state at the moment, these little nuggets of fun news are always comforting to the soul. If you love Pixar already (who doesn’t) prepare to get excited for Luca!

Pixar Goes To Europe with ‘Luca’

You know them, you love them, Pixar is releasing another original film that sounds like a bonafide hit. Earlier this year, Pixar explored all things mystical with Tom Holland and Chris Pratt starring as elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot, in the search for just one more night with their late father in Onward. Did anyone else cry throughout that whole movie? Just me? Now, Pixar is headed to Italy with a very personal story in mind. Directing is Oscar-nominated (he directed short film La Luna) Enrico Casarosa, and this story is more than just animated fun for him. The director has worked on other Pixar hits like Coco, but Luca marks Casarosa’s directorial debut in feature films.

For Casarosa this story really hits home. I always think the best Pixar movies are the ones that can give you that kid-like excitement while simultaneously making you think. People always said Disney movies were really made for the adults, and Pixar’s no different. The director wrote in a statement, “This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it’s set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in ‘Luca.’ So in addition to the beauty and charm of the Italian seaside, our film will feature an unforgettable summer adventure that will fundamentally change Luca.”

The more Pixar develops the more heartfelt stories audiences are getting. Pixar has always had a major amount of heart, and it seems that with each passing film the company just gets better and better. These are the minds behind Toy Story, Monster’s Inc., and so much more so it doesn’t come as a total shock that fans are getting super excited about Luca

Casting choices have not yet been announced, but a sliver of the plot has been revealed. Variety reported that the animated film will center around Luca, a young boy living on the Italian Riviera as he embarks on fantastical journeys with a newfound friend. The pair form a wonderful bond, but there is a slight twist. Luca is struggling to hide the fact that he doubles as a sea monster from another world. Okay, so that twist is a little more than slight. The film is set to have all the charm of a coming-of-age summer hit, with a bit of a darker twinge, which is sure to leave viewers bewildered as to how the pair will remain close friends.

What’s To Come with ‘Luca’

Pixar recently had to push back the release of Soul, a film centered around a middle school band teacher whose soul travels to another dimension of the past, where he truly learns about his passions for jazz and what it means to ‘have soul’. The film was set to be released in June but amid the worries of the pandemic, the film has now been pushed back to a November release date. The shuffling around of films at this time comes as no surprise, but getting the news that Pixar had their sights set on Luca as well as Soul…well it must be our lucky day. Onward was forced to release digitally, and while this may be the case for upcoming films as well, we will keep our fingers crossed that things like restrictions and distancing can only go up from here (as long as we all continue to wear our masks of course!)

Luca pretty much sounds like the summer of our dreams, and we are even more excited to see who gets named as the full cast. Jamie Foxx is set to star in Soul, and Cassie Steel and Awkwafina are set to lend their voices to Pixar’s Raya and The Last Dragon. The film takes place on the island of Kumandra, where Raya is on an epic journey to find the last living dragon. The film is set to be released in the spring of 2021. If you thought any of the film industry was sitting on their laurels, boy were you mistaken! As production slowly but surely is getting back up to speed more film announcements are making their way to the news.

It’s refreshing to see Pixar exploring the many different corners of our world. Coco was one of my personal favorites and with films like that and Inside Out it feels like the company is really reaching out to make things that can resonate with all ages. Above all else, Pixar is a place for magic! Luca is sure to be just as magical and sincere as the many other wonderful titles. It would be awesome to see Pixar bringing in that authentic Italian culture to the screen, paying homage to the beautiful country and their customs. Disney’s Pixar has never shied away from a challenge, and this film will be no different. We cannot wait to see how this one pans out!
