February 6, 2022, marks the Platinum Jubilee, the seventy-year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign as the matriarch of the United Kingdom and its Commonwealth realms, which have included more than fifty-four countries. While her title denotes her as the Head of State for many of these nations, she has proven that she does not see herself as their overlord but simply as a servant of the people, determined to ensure peace and prosperity for all of her title’s subjects. Serving as the head of the monarchy, to one of the most popular and beloved royal families in history, Queen Elizabeth II demonstrates without end the epitome of class, tireless dedication to philanthropy and charity, all in the face of countless struggles and years of civil and social unrest in a changing world.

She has ensured the success and continuation of the House of Windsor, and is considered the most adored and admired Queen in the history of the British monarchy, even surpassing her idolized grandmother, Queen Victoria. As someone who when first-born was not even expected to rule as the Queen, due to her father being the second-born heir, Queen Elizabeth II rose to this momentous challenge and daunting role, reflecting the qualities of a monarch who considers the needs of her people before her own. At Hollywood Insider, we are huge fans of HM Queen Elizabeth II and admire her, as clearly evident from the CEO Pritan Ambroase’s tribute to the monarch, which went on to become one of the most popular articles on the Queen.
Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee: Early Life and Ascension to The Throne
Born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary on April 21, 1926, Queen Elizabeth II was not in line or predicted to become Britain’s most prolific monarch. Her father King George VI was the second-born son of King George V and brother to King Edward VIII. It was only when King Edward VIII abdicated the throne to his brother King George V because he wanted to marry the American socialite, Wallis Warfield Simpson, that Queen Elizabeth II ultimately became the successor to the crown. Queen Elizabeth II succeeded to the throne in 1952 after the untimely death of her father. She was crowned on June 2, 1953.
Before she was declared Queen, Queen Elizabeth was an avid horse enthusiast/rider, made national broadcasts at the age of fourteen to boost morale and raise support for Britain’s war effort during WWII, and even served as a mechanic and “driver in the women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service.” Queen Elizabeth was just twenty-five years old when she was crowned Queen, although she was twenty-one when she was first married to Prince Philip. During her coronation in 1953, Prince Phillip sparked a furious debate in the nation when he knelt before the Queen and swore, “to become your liege man of life and limb.” This oath by Prince Phillip reflected the extent of their love and commitment to each other and they were married for seventy-four years until the passing of Prince Phillip, this past year. One indication of Queen Elizabeth’s commitment to her nation occurred after a tragic natural disaster struck in the South Wale village, Aberfan, in 1966.
Why Queen Elizabeth II Is One Of The Greatest Monarchs
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of United Queendom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland
This disaster was caused by an “avalanche of water, mud and debris from a coal mine,” which buried an elementary school, killing “116 children and 28 adults.” Instead of traveling immediately to the site of the disaster, Queen Elizabeth felt that her presence would distract from the focus of the rescue efforts, so she refrained from traveling there until a couple of weeks later. This selfless action would actually become a source of regret for Queen Elizabeth II, as she now feels as if she should have been there but her intention was only to fully support and bolster immediate aid for this village. This tragedy reflects not just the difficult challenges that Queen Elizabeth has faced in her reign, but also shows her kind heart and dedication not to her popularity, but to the lives and benefit of her people.
Why Is Queen Elizabeth’s Reign So Significant?
Queen Elizabeth II’s seventy-year reign has been remarkable because of her unwavering support for and unimpeachable sense of duty to her people. Queen Elizabeth II once said, “I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.” Her consideration and personal obligation to not just being the greatest, nor generous, but rather the most insightful and wise ruler in the UK’s history has led to the public’s vast appreciation and love for their monarch. It is what has ensured the survival and high regard for the crown’s symbolic and formal role in their government. As head of the Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth II has served as the representative leader of many countries of which Canada’s sovereignty has been of direct importance to the Queen.
In 1982, the Queen signed a new constitution for Canada transferring over control, “ placing in the governor general’s hands almost all the Queen’s powers and authorities with respect to Canada.” From this action, “The governor-general is now Canada’s highest-ranking representative abroad when Canada’s head of state is required on the world stage.” Queen Elizabeth II has shown that she is a promoter of democratic rule and that she does not use her authority to attain more might but rather to distribute the balance of power so that all may benefit. Not only has she been a fervent advocate for the distribution of power, the Queen, because of the public’s adoration and admiration of her, has invigorated Britain’s economy. Due to the Queen and royal family’s popularity, tourism has been significantly “boosted,” contributing to the financial and economic stimulation of the country, solely by their existence. The extraordinariness of this fact is remarkable and only further serves to highlight the public’s adoration and admiration for their Queen.

The total number of Queen Elizabeth II’s accomplishments is too vast to list. She has countless achievements as an advocate for progressive reform and the dissolution of preconceived prejudices. In 1970, she was the first monarch in history to partake in a “walkabout” during a tour of Australia and New Zealand, where she took a “casual stroll” through streets lined with crowds in order to greet people in person. In 1986, she was Britain’s first monarch to ever visit the mainland of China, “touring the terracotta warriors in Xi’an, the Great Wall in Beijing,” as well as a number of other provinces. She helped pass the Crown Act in 2013, which ensures that the firstborn child to the current King or Queen of Britain, whether they be boy or girl, will be first in the line of succession, disassociating gender for the first time ever from the “line of the throne.”
Queen Elizabeth II has ties as patron or head of over “600 charities, military associations, professional bodies, and public service organizations.” Her rule has seen the decolonization of countless countries that were once part of Britain’s empire, and she has been responsible in part for the affirmation of the close relationship between Britain and the U.S. as she has reigned through the service of fourteen British prime ministers and thirteen American presidents. The integrity of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign is without equal. Her legacy reflects the “embodiment of national identity and continuity,” and she has proven in her seventy years as a ruler that she is more than worthy of her title as Queen.
