The Hollywood Insider Lantern’s Lane Review

Fear not horror film lovers just because Halloween has passed doesn’t mean the new horror film releases are over. ‘Lantern’s Lane’ releases on November 5, and you definitely won’t want to miss it. Does your hometown have any urban legends or creepy homes or cemeteries that everyone tries to avoid, or not? ‘Lantern’s Lane’ tells the story of four reunited estranged high school friends, Layla (Brooke Butler), Shana (Sydney Carvill), Missy (Ashley Doris), and Jason (Andy Cohen), and a night they will absolutely never forget if they survive. It’s a classic horror film where Layla, a recent college graduate, heads back to her hometown, where she reunites with her high school best friends at a hole-in-the-wall bar. They instantly connect like they used to be back in their high school days and decide to visit a place they used to go drink beers at occasionally, Lantern’s Lane.

This is where the urban legend part of the story comes in. Lantern’s Lane is not just some fun drinking spot; but instead, there is an urban legend that does not seem as scary as what actually happens in the film. The legend goes that a woman walks around the area with a lantern looking for her husband, but the trailer shows the bad guy in the film looks nothing like a ghostly mourning woman. After stocking up on beers, the friends head to Lantern’s Lane to reminisce and go outside a seemingly abandoned home that is full of graffiti and a bunch of other things, including what might be someone’s blood. The night is going amazing, and the friends talk about stories circling the area, including the story of some kids that were murdered in the house, but in the end, they just kind of laugh it off. It’s all fun and games until they receive an unwanted visitor that messes with them until it gets serious and it’s no longer a game.

‘Lantern’s Lane’ – Will they survive?

Obviously, we will not find out who makes it out alive until we are able to watch the film, but the trailer makes it seem quite impossible that any of them will. It’s not clear from the trailer whether the urban legend is actually real or the creepy killer is a real person living out some bizarre fantasies and wants to become the urban legend themselves. Either way, the killer is absolutely horrifying in tattered clothes and a burlap sack mask that is all stitched up around the mouth. The friends assume the killer, or unwanted guest at first, is just someone also intrigued by the area like themselves and is there to just mess with them. The killer sneaks around the windows of the home and makes himself very present even though the friend group can’t quite tell where it is coming from at all times, bad news. Then it gets real when the killer reveals themselves wielding a knife and very obviously coming after them to kill them.

In the trailer, we see what they think is the urban legend chasing them and getting closer and closer to stabbing them before they somehow are able to avoid them each time. One of the friends in the trailer doesn’t seem to get so lucky and appears to get stabbed in the back; she may live, you never know. Next, we see one of the friends take it upon herself to be brave and try to get help, but then they cut to the next scene revealing the girl is either got stabbed or is really struggling to try to move to get help. Considering there are four people against one killer, it seems possible that the friends would be able to overtake the killer and make it out alive, but that just doesn’t really seem like the case based on the trailer. It is not clear if they will all make it out alive, but based on other horror films, usually, at least one person is able to live and tell the story for years to come. Will they live and catch the killer, or will the killer actually be some kind of spiritual being that will haunt the area for eternity? We will have to find out.

Horror Films in November

Obviously, October is usually the time of year that we always see a massive amount of horror films being released every year. Still, this year we actually will see several new horror film releases in the month of November. I think it will be an odd but nice balance between the massive amount of holiday films that usually come around November and December because who doesn’t love a good horror film after all. ‘Lantern’s Lane’ will be an interesting way to kick of November, and I can’t wait to see which, if any, of the friends make it out alive to prove that the urban legend is real. I have a feeling they will all make it out alive, but still, we will have to watch to find out. I also hope to find out if the masked killer is a real person or, in fact, the urban legend that everyone tells stories about. Either way, the killer is extremely creepy and certainly lives up to Lantern’s Lane’s urban legend.
