The Hollywood Insider Being the Ricardos Review, Javier Bardem, Nicole Kidman, Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz

It was the whirlwind romance story of the 20th century. The famous Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz captured America’s attention with their passionate but not so perfect love story that would even be featured in the famous television sitcom ‘I Love Lucy.’ Their marriage and relationship were rumored to be full of miscarriages, alcohol abuse, and a lot of womanizing on Desi’s part. However, still, they had two beautiful children together and remained friends even after their divorce. If you’re looking for a deeper look into this famous American love story, ‘Being the Ricardos’ probably isn’t exactly what you are looking for. Award-winning writer, producer, and director Aaron Sorkin is back again with another amazing dramatized look into American politics, law, and media.

Aaron Sorkin is known for his unique way and decision to tell stories, which shows in ‘Being the Ricardos.’ ‘Being the Ricardos’ is the story of an extremely hectic week in the lives of the stars of ‘I Love Lucy’ who happened to be married in real-life Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. The week in discussion for the film is the week that Lucille Ball was accused of being a communist, which at that point in the 20th century in America was extremely damaging and hurtful to a celebrity’s reputation.

Instead of Aaron Sorkin making the decision to write a complete story about the beginning, middle, and end of the relationship between the passionate loving pair, he instead chose to focus on a specific trying moment in their relationship. You might be thinking how there could be a whole film made about a single week in a married couple’s life, but that is what makes Aaron Sorkin’s films so refreshing and different. Choosing to focus on one week in Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz’s life had to be a challenging project, but there is no doubt that Aaron Sorkin was able to capture the couple’s love and passion for each other.

Though their relationship wasn’t perfect, there was no doubt that the two had an undying everlasting love for each other, and it never faded even after their divorce in 1960 following their twenty-year marriage. It has been mentioned several times that even after their divorce, Lucille and Desi still talked highly of each other and remained great friends until the day they passed. Once again, this isn’t a chronological look into the Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz’s love story, but rather a crazy week that happened in their lives featuring tidbits of their lives off the screens.

Creating ‘Being the Ricardos’

The fiery Lucille Ball will be portrayed by the one, and only Nicole Kidman and womanizer Desi Arnaz will be portrayed by Javier Bardem. ‘Being the Ricardos’ is an Amazon Original film that is set to release on December 10. In a way, ‘Being the Ricardos’ is a look into the parallels of cancel culture then and cancel culture now, as we will see Lucille and Desi try to navigate the scandal they find themselves in. As mentioned before, ‘Being the Ricardos’ will focus on one week in their relationship.

Still, it will also feature flashbacks of past moments in their relationship and will offer more perspective of the couple’s home relationship when they weren’t on the big screen. Lucille Ball was a famous actress, radio host, and more and ultimately found herself in the career spotlight for most of her life. Desi Arnaz was a famous musician, actor, comedian, and more and ultimately has been credited for having a large part in the creation of modern television. The lovely couple met on a movie set and quickly fell in love, which would ultimately bring them two children and worldwide fame. Their whirl whind relationship intrigued America as it was portrayed on a television sitcom, and the large amount of media surrounding the conspiracies circled around the relationship.

As we are able to watch a challenging moment in the couple’s relationship, we will also see how they were able to overcome the many trials and stipulations that often made up their relationship together. Overall, I am excited to watch ‘Being the Ricardos’ and get more of a unique perspective into the 20th-century whirlwind romance. It is always interesting to get a look into old Hollywood relationships and old Hollywood in general. Aaron Sorkin will undoubtedly tell the love story in an interesting and intriguing way as he has with previous projects in the past. I am also excited to see Nicole Kidman take on the role of Lucille Ball. The film has already won one award and been nominated for several others, and I am sure there is more to come. Don’t forget ‘Being the Ricardos’ will officially release December 10 on Amazon’s platform.
