Robinson is a comedian, writer, and actress with 10 years of stand-up experience that has prepped her to become a talented multi-hyphenate threat with unmatched authenticity and authenticity. Robinson is debuting her first solo special, ‘Sorry, Harriet Tubman,’ on HBO Max. Judging by her impressive list of credits, including her two-woman stand-up special on HBO, ‘2 Dope Queens,” alongside Jessica Williams, her first solo comedy special will not disappoint. Not to mention, Robinson was the moderator for Michelle Obama’s international ‘Becoming’ book tour. As if that wasn’t enough, Robinson is the author of ‘Please Don’t Sit on My Bed in Your Outside Clothes’, a collection of essays that provide readers a personal glimpse into the genius and relatable mind of Robinson.

The trailer for ‘Sorry, Harriet Tubman’ features Robinson discussing reparations, therapy, interracial relationships, and the wild experience of quarantining with your significant other. On the heels of a tumultuous year, Phoebe Robinson’s upcoming comedy special will, undoubtedly, be the emotional reset audiences desperately need. 

Getting to Know Phoebe Robinson

Robinson’s career continues to evolve, which is of no surprise given that her talents prove to be boundless. The 36-year-old comedian, writer, and actress moved from Cleveland, Ohio to New York so that she could attend the Pratt Institute and study screenwriting. Soon after, Robinson found work at a production company, and it wasn’t until she was convinced to attend a stand-up class by a friend that Robinson discovered comedy was the path for her. Robinson stated, “it’s like, ‘Girl, what else should I be doing but comedy?’ But, at the time, I just didn’t think of it that way.” Now, with 10 years of stand-up under her belt, Robinson is ready to dominate the entertainment industry. 

 Phoebe Robinson formed her production company, Tiny Reparations, which will be producing a series, ‘Everything is Trash but It’s Okay’ on Freeform, which is based on Robinson’s New York Times bestselling book. Additionally, she is developing and starring in ‘Doing the Most with Phoebe Robinson’ an unscripted talk show that will be aired on Comedy Central. She will be interviewing artists and providing audiences with more of her gifted banter. Robinson is an unstoppable and artistic force with undeniable wit, charm, and limitless ambition.

Robinson’s gift for storytelling ebbs and flows between her various projects that are consistently met with praise and the recognition she rightfully deserves. When asked about her approach to writing, “Writing is one of the great forms of expression, to understand and question the world, to reflect on the human condition, or simply to connect with someone. It can do many things, and for a lot of people, writing— whether it’s a journal or the next “Great American Novel”— is an activity that can bring peace and be meditative.” 

A Charming and Mighty Presence

There’s a reason Phoebe Robinson seems familiar; she has graciously graced our screens with multiple projects that feature her comedic influence and rising stardom. She co-starred in Netflix’s hit series ‘Ibiza: Love Drunk,’ was a contestant on ‘Ru Paul’s Drag Race,’ and starred in 7 episodes of the cult-fav, ‘Search Party.’ Not to mention. the HBO series, ‘2 Dope Queens,’ which she co-created alongside Jessica Williams, was a major success within its first season that the network ordered a second season to audiences’ delight.  

For the past decade, Robinson has tapped into almost every medium and is expertly sharing her advice and perspective through multiple platforms. She has a podcast, ‘Sooo Many White Guys,’ that speaks to white men commanding the comedy world which notoriously excluded minorities and yes, women. Robinson states, “I remember I submitted a writing packet, like, three times at ‘SNL,’ Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel, Fallon. Getting that level of rejection, I was like, ‘Why do I keep waiting for this when I could just do my own thing?’ Whether it’s something like ‘2 Dope Queens’ or ‘Everything’s Trash but It’s Okay,’ I really just bet on myself because, essentially, it’s not like, ‘You know what we’re in the mood for? Black women.’”

A Writer and a Visionary

It’s important to note, Phoebe Robinson is an accomplished and best-selling author. She’s written, ‘You Can’t Touch My Hair’, which according to her website, “As personal as it is political, You Can’t Touch My Hair examines our cultural climate and skewers our biases with humor and heart, announcing Robinson as a writer on the rise.” Robinson shares her experience as a Black woman in America while combining her fascination for pop culture and comedy through a fresh, literary voice. Robinson’s more recent and very relatable title, ‘Please Don’t Sit on My Bed in Your Outside Clothes’ is a collection of essays that navigate her current relationship, a decision to go child-free in the 21st century, and the shift of focus toward the Black Lives Matter movement. Throughout her career, Robinson has been featured on New York Times, HuffPost, Vanity Fair, and created her blog ‘Black Daria’.
