‘Him’ 2025 Trailer

‘HIM’

Jordan Peele is at it again, this time serving as a producer on the 2025 Horror film ‘Him’. The film was written by Zack Ackers, Skip Bronkie, and Justin Tipping. ‘Him’ explores themes such as sacrifice and greed. Our protagonist of the film is Cameron Cade, played by Tyriq Withers. Cade dreams of playing football for the San Antonio Saviors, with his idol being Isaiah White, played by Marlon Wayans. Just before Cade gets his big chance to be drafted by the Saviors, he is attacked, suffering a blow to the head that results in a severe concussion that could cost him his career and everything he has worked for.

Why ‘HIM’?

It’s no secret that football is the biggest sport in the United States. Every year millions of fans tune in not only for the whole season, but also for the Superbowl. It’s estimated that over 100 million people watch the NFL Superbowl every single year. And every year, high school and college boys chase this dream of being the next big NFL star.

Playing football is seen as masculine. The sport as a whole is brutal, but for millions exhilarating. So why ‘HIM’? Because getting somewhere like the NFL is the dream of millions of young American men, so achieving that would make that young man, “the man”.

Throughout the movie ‘HIM’, this idea of being the top male is explored. As Cade trains with Isaiah, the training becomes more and more brutal. But Cade keeps on pushing up until the very end, when he has to face off with none other than Isaiah. The two men fight to the “the man.”

Cameron Cade

In the very beginning of ‘HIM’, we see a young Cade watching a Savior’s game on the TV. He is surrounded by his family and the Savior’s memorabilia. Isaiah White ends up winning the game, obtaining a serious, possibly career-ending injury. As young Cade looks away from the TV, his father makes him look again, telling him, “That’s what a real man looks like.” It becomes clear from that point on that Cade is willing to do anything to achieve his dream of being the next Isaiah White.

We learn that Isaiah receivers from the injury and continues on playing and is the most famous football player at the time. Cade prepares to leave college football in hopes of being drafted into the saviors when he is attacked by a masked assailant. After the attack, Cade’s doctor all but suggests that he quit playing football and give up his dream. From this point on, we see clear staples in Cade’s head. These staples come into play throughout the entire film.

The Use of Religion

It wasn’t by accident that the NFL team created for the film was the San Antonio Saviors. While watching the film ‘HIM’, the audience is introduced to this idea of righteousness right from the beginning. We see Cade’s father wearing a cross around his neck. The cross is later passed onto Cade. Cade is a very clean, driven young man who only has a big dream.

Then as the film goes on, we finally meet Isaiah White, and at first, everything is fine. But slowly, this corrupt evil starts seeping in through the cracks. The film quickly goes from Isaiah pushing Cade to do better, to absolute brutality. There is a scene in ‘HIM’ where Cade is throwing the football to his receivers, and while he is doing this, another man is getting blasted in the face by high-speed footballs until Cade can get it right. In a scene later on, Cade asks Isaiah if the man will be alright and Isaiah tells him no but that he shouldn’t care. This is one of the biggest signs of how far gone Isaiah really is.

The film continues down this path of sacrifice to the point it seems as if Isaiah is no longer really human. He has become depraved, no longer thinking of others and their lives, but rather only himself and football. The further we make it into the film, the less godly Isaiah White becomes and the more satanic he gets.

The film discusses sacrifice, which can be traced back to religion. In Christianity, it is believed that Jesus sacrificed his life to save humanity from its sins. And while football isn’t as deep a Christianity, the film twists this idea of sacrifice in such a way that it’s bone-chilling. Take a look at this scene, where Isaiah ask Cade what he is willing to sacrifice.

Hallucinations

Throughout the movie, Cade has these vivid hallucinations that occur after he was first attacked. These hallucinations keep the audience on the edge of their seat as they try to navigate whether or not the hallucination is real. At first, the hallucinations only occur after Cade has been hit in the head, but they get progressively more frequent until it becomes impossible to tell whether or not what Cade is experiencing is real or not.

In the very beginning, the hallucinations aare always of someone trying to murder Cade. When Cade collapses in the desert, he sees someone dressed in memorabilia about to bash his head in. While walking down the hall, he envisions paparazzi and someone pulling a bag over his face. Much later in the film, one of Isaiah’s crazed fans does actually try to murder Cade. But when this scene is happening, it is hard to tell if Cade is imagining it or if this woman is genuinely trying to murder him.

Even later in the film, when Cade is all in, things get very dark. Isaiah’s personal doctor Marco warns Cade to run, and then only a couple of scenes later, we see his decapitated head. Whether or not Marco is actually dead or not is unclear, due to the nature of the previous hallucinations. And in the very end, which I will not reveal, blood gets spilt everywhere, but once again, due to the hallucinations, it’s hard to tell whether or not Cade simply lost his mind from greed and sacrifice, or if it really happened. The point of this is to make the protagonist along with the viewer, question what is reality vs. fiction. The psychological point of the film is overtop and well-done.

Conclusion

The 2025 film ‘HIM’ directed by Justin Tipping and produced by Jordan is another thrilling horror for any horror fan to watch. It adds the new twist of something so love-able like football and it makes it dark. It takes an innocent young man and makes him question everything he ever knew, along with the audience. And it touches on greed and sacrifice in such artistic ways.

Media/Cinema/TV have a responsibility to better the world and The Hollywood Insider will continue to do so. Talent, diversity and authenticity matter in Cinema/TV, media and storytelling. In fact, I reckon that we should announce “talent-diversity-authenticity-storytelling-Cinema-Oscars-Academy-Awards” as synonyms of each other. We show respect to talent and stories regardless of their skin color, race, gender, sexuality, religion, nationality, etc., thus allowing authenticity into this system just by something as simple as accepting and showing respect to the human species’ factual diversity. We become greater just by respecting and appreciating talent in all its shapes, sizes, and forms. Award winners, which includes nominees, must be chosen on the greatness of their talent ALONE.

I am sure I am speaking for a multitude of Cinema lovers all over the world when I speak of the following sentiments that this medium of art has blessed me with. Cinema taught me about our world, at times in English and at times through the beautiful one-inch bar of subtitles. I learned from the stories in the global movies that we are all alike across all borders. Remember that one of the best symbols of many great civilizations and their prosperity has been the art they have left behind. This art can be in the form of paintings, sculptures, architecture, writings, inventions, etc. For our modern society, Cinema happens to be one of them. Cinema is more than just a form of entertainment, it is an integral part of society. I love the world uniting, be it for Cinema, TV, media, art, fashion, sport, etc. Please keep this going full speed.”
