With ‘Midnight Sky’, Miley Cyrus Proclaims Her Greatest Love Affair, this Time with Herself

Miley Cyrus has never been one to shy away from honesty and vulnerability, which is just one of the reasons so many fans resonate and connect with her. Coming off a very public divorce, Cyrus has definitely faced some obstacles. However, she has proven time and time again that there are no ground rules for worldwide fame. Instead she has aimed to convey to her fans that they should be allowed to completely free and fully themselves. Since her Disney days, Cyrus has continued to develop her sense of self and has been open enough to share that with the world, which is beautiful! In a new interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Cyrus is revealing her inner most thoughts, struggles, and loves.

She Can’t Be Tamed And It’s Everything and More

Miley always sang Can’t Be Tamed, but nowadays that song takes on a whole new meaning. Between relationships, self-love, and continuing to explore her sexuality Miley is being as vulnerable as ever. Her newest single “Midnight Sky” is Cyrus’ proclamation that she doesn’t need anyone to love herself. She knows she can be happy on her own or with others, but ultimately the decision is always hers. The music video for the song is also self directed, showing that Cyrus has really grown to be fully comfortable taking the reins. Fans have been waiting for new music from Cyrus for a few months now and it’s clear that she was hard at work perfecting her first project. “Midnight Sky” is as silky and smooth as the title suggests, tying in those pop synths that we all know and love. Miley’s voice sounds stronger than ever (didn’t think that was possible) and everything about the track ties together in a very neat bow.

The song feels like the real Miley. Her previous music was just as great, but something about this track just feels more introspective and special than others. Miley talked to Zach Sang of The Zach Sang Show and said, “This song is really just a reflection of everyone kind of having this personal kind of woke moment, I feel like a lot of us are waking up. And you know, the midnight sky, I think is kind of a road that feels like it could be nice to take with our head up in the clouds.”

Ever since the world was introduced to Miley Cyrus as ‘Hannah Montana’ on the Disney Channel, she has been a huge topic of discussion. Being in the public eye since her early teenage years, it is understandable why Cyrus has always felt the need to keep a filter on herself.  Talking about the new track and this newest chapter of life, Cyrus talked to host of Barstool Sports’ Call Her Daddy podcast, Alexandra Cooper. The pair left no stone un-turned as they chatted about all things personal. It was a nice change in pace, seeing as how the theme of the podcast was pretty much everything goes! It’s rare that we can see celebrities completely unfiltered, just talking from the heart without a strict publicist coaching them.

In their hour long conversation, Cooper and Cyrus talked about the public’s perception of who Miley Cyrus is, and the actual her. One of their biggest topics of discussion was love and heartbreak. Both are no stranger to the sentiment and Cyrus was eager to share her personal tips for moving on from heartbreak. “I had a very, very public, very big breakup that was over a 10-year span of a relationship,” she told Cooper. “Sitting with me now, I would hope you find me to be somewhat this way, which is not the public perception, is I’m very logical. I’m very organized and very kind of center. And so, I love lists. Lists keep my whole f–king world on track. My world would be wrecked if I didn’t make lists.” Excuse me while I go write out lists of everything imaginable.

The Next Chapter for Miley Cyrus

Though Miley talked candidly about love, relationships and heartbreak, the next move for her is to spend time with herself. Like she sings on “Midnight Sky,” she was born to run and she does not belong to anyone! Cyrus told Cooper about her sexual experiences with both women and men and how they differ, and she explained how she felt when choosing male partners, “It felt like I was choosing partners out of anxiety, which is like so much to do with, like, my therapy journey, too, because I don’t want to choose who I’m going to be with out of anxiety of fear or stereotype because that’s not anything that I represent or believe in is like the stereotype.”

There wasn’t a single dull moment as Miley discussed the stereotypes that infiltrate the LGBTQ community. It was extremely nice to listen to her explain who she really is at her core. There was a feeling that Miley just might be the least judgmental person on the planet. When it comes to falling in love, she has no real type, instead for her it’s about finding a person who is secure and adds to her happiness.

She explained, “I’ve been with a lot of different kinds of like dudes and chicks, like I’ve been with like super femme girls, girls that kind of make me feel more femme, like I just really don’t have a type. The main thing for me is that someone has to bring something that is elevating my life. That’s in all my relationships, not just my sexual relationships.”

The entire hour-long interview is probably the most vulnerable, yet at the same time, confident that we have ever seen Cyrus. For someone who has been fighting every personal battle in the public eye, Cyrus has a great head on her shoulders. She has learned that the only person who is truly going to look out for her happiness is herself, and that she deserves the best (be right back grabbing some tissues!) This really feels like just the beginning for the talented singer, and it’s sure to be an amazing chapter.

With ‘Midnight Sky’, Miley Cyrus proves to us that her greatest love affair is with herself. And it is only just beginning.
